Colchester Zoo is constantly evolving to ensure a world class level of commitment to the animals.

Opening Times  open every day from 9.30am except Christmas Day
Closing times vary according to season.

Zoo Grounds close at 5.00pm
Operating Hours: Catering and Retail outlets will usually close at least one hour prior to the Zoo grounds and Guest Services usually closes 30 minutes beforehand. Please note that the zoo car parks close a maximum of 30 minutes after the zoo closes.
Colchester Zoo is a full day out, so do get here early! You’ll need to visit more than once to see every event.

How to get here by Car:
Colchester Zoo is located just south of Colchester. Take the A1124 exit (Junction 26) off the main A12 following the brown elephant signs.Click here to get directions by putting in your own postcode in the box provided.
Colchester Zoo is situated on Maldon Road in Stanway.
Car parking is free and disabled car parking spaces are available close to the zoo entrance. NB Blue badges must be displayed to use the disabled parking area

With over 260 species to see, set in 60 acres of beautiful parkland and lakes, Colchester Zoo is well worth a visit. There are over 40 daily displays, an undercover soft play area, 4 adventure play areas, The Lost Madagascar Express road train and much more!

There is so much to see and do with just some of the sights including watching sea lions swimming above your heads at Playa Patagonia, and penguins swimming underwater at Penguin Shores. Visit Walking Giants to see 3 out of 4 of the world’s biggest tortoise species in their energy efficient enclosure!

Take a train ride on the Lost Madagascar Express and experience our first ever walkthrough lemur enclosure, Lost Madagascar, and walk amongst ring-tailed and red-ruffed lemurs in an exciting habitat.

Colchester Zoo 3

You can watch our white rhino, giraffes, zebras, greater kudu and ostriches together at the Kingdom of the Wild. Opposite you can see our herd of four elephants at Elephant Kingdom.

Colchester Zoo’s Dragons of Komodo houses the two Komodo Dragons, and at Tiger Taiga you can see our pair of Amur tigers, which are one of the rarest big cat species.
